School 145 Birthday |
A message from Ian Keary on the occasion of the School's 145th Birthday - Friday 14 February 2025
"With love in the air on Valentine’s Day, we had even more reason to celebrate as our school marked its 145th birthday in true style! It was a day filled with singing, laughter, dancing, cakes (of course!), a candle lighting ceremony, and some fiercely competitive fun, all wrapped up in the wonderful sense of community that makes our school unique and so special.
This annual tradition is a firm favourite among our students, not just for the festivities but also for the chance to reflect on the journey of our school in our whole school assembly, remembering those who came before us and reminding everyone of the role we all have in building on the wonderful legacy of the past 145 years. In support of the School Birthday, some Year 12 musicians made a music video with the twin themes of Love and Light. They had chosen the Eurovision-winning classic ‘Love, Shine a Light’ by Katrina and the Waves and asked staff and students to sing different parts, then compiled all 25 lines of the song into a seamless video, which was shared in the main assembly. It was a fabulous whole school venture that brought a great deal of enjoyment to proceedings.
Our theme ‘brighter futures’ feels especially fitting this year, as we focus on raising funds to provide LED lighting in our Holdsworth Wing classrooms, creating an even better and more sustainable learning environment for our students. This giving week has been supported with great enthusiasm and we are incredibly grateful for all the generous School Birthday donations.
Please consider giving to the school birthday giving fund here.
The winning School Birthday message, which was revealed in the assembly, was: ‘From the moment she enters to the day she departs this warm sanctuary holds a place in her heart and in her next chapter whatever unfurls she’ll always be proud to be a Tiffin girl.’ Neri (Year 11)
Finally, congratulations to Orford who won the School Birthday Trophy.
