School 145 Birthday 2 |
As part of our School Birthday Giving Week, our Year 12 students explored the beauty of mathematics with maths teacher, Mrs Urquhart, by creating linked Möbius hearts—a perfect blend of maths and meaning!
Discovered in 1858 by German mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius, the Möbius strip is a fascinating shape with only one side, symbolising unity and infinity. By carefully twisting and connecting strips of paper, students formed interlinked Möbius hearts— a mathematical representation of togetherness and endless possibility.
This hands-on activity wasn’t just about geometry; it highlighted the real-world applications of topology, a branch of mathematics that helps scientists study everything from robotics to the shape of the universe. Who knew that a simple twist of paper could reveal the boundless potential of maths?
