We were delighted to welcome The Worshipful the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, Councillor Sushila Abraham and her consort, Dr Matthew Abraham, to officially open the Rivermead building on Thursday 23 September. Although the building had been completed and used by the students just before lockdown, the restrictions had meant that we were not able to hold a fitting celebration to mark its opening.
Headteacher Ian Keary thanked the governors, parents, alumnae and charitable trusts whose generous donations made the building possible. In her speech, the Mayor spoke about the importance of having a dedicated space for practical education that promotes creative and innovative thinking as part of a rounded education, and how it enhances the reputation the school has for academic excellence.
She also commented on the important role the school plays in the community of Kingston in sharing its facilities with residents of the borough and looked forward to the completion of the Sports Centre and improved indoor sports facilities which will be benefitting students and residents alike.
