Who remembers the fun and frolics of Rag Week at the school?  

This year, our Deputy Head Girls led an action-packed week which raised a wonderful total of £3,861 to go to United World Schools to support our new partner school, Chewaa School in Sankhuwasabha, Nepal. The money raised will now be doubled by the UK government’s fund-matching scheme.

Our congratulations go to two of our Charity Deputy Head Girls, Emily and Lara, who worked tirelessly to lead the week filled with sweet treats, a movie night, a Year 7 disco, the Teacher University Challenge and, not forgetting, the highly entertaining 'Sponge the Teacher' event.

RAG WEEK:

Love them or loathe them, student Rag Weeks have been a highlight on the annual calendars of British (schools), colleges and universities for more than a century. Students look forward to a week of mischief and mayhem....the fun-filled events which usually make up Rag Week have raised thousands of pounds for local and national charities over the years. The verb “to rag” was commonly used in the late 1800s in Britain meaning to pester or badger someone.

It is thought that the term came into common usage amongst students around this time as university students, noticing inequalities in society, began to take time out of their studies “to rag” members of the public to donate items to clothe the most vulnerable members of society. (Leicester Live)
